NATURAL DISASTERS Feb 1-12

Students have completed the RESEARCH phase of the Natural Disasters Project. Students worked in the media center gathering information from encyclopedias, references, non fiction books, online data bases and web searches. This part is worth 25 points.
This week, students are designing a Power Point Presentation in the computer lab.
This project is a major part of the science grade this quarter and is worth 100 points.

Earth Science Quarter 3
The unit this quarter is Weather and Climate. Students are doing a project called Natural Disasters. Students choose a natural disaster topic of interest such as tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, global warming, avalanches, wildfires, lightning, blizzards, and El Nino. This project has 3 major components:
Research using the "Big Six" model in the media center
Designing a PowerPoint multimedia presentation using computers
Oral presentation to the classes.
The remainder of the quarter will be spent with the study of the atmosphere and weather. Students will learn how to use weather instruments, a weather station and how to make a weather forecast.
